Education

There has to be parental participation in children's education. Having a working relationship between teachers, understanding curriculum, and mutual understanding of reasonable accommodations has to be done with mutual communication. We must consider passing a parent's bill of rights to ensure that school boards do not hide life changing information regarding your children.

Max Fisher's Policy Positions on Education in Virginia

**Introduction**

As your candidate for the House of Delegates, I believe that a strong education system is essential for the future of our children and the prosperity of our state. Our goal is to ensure that every child in Virginia receives a high-quality education, regardless of their background. To achieve this, we must implement pragmatic conservative policies that not only raise test scores but also address the needs of low-income families and enhance mental health resources in our schools.

**Policy Positions: Improving Education in Virginia**

 1. **Promoting School Choice**

   - **Expand Charter Schools and Vouchers**: Advocate for the expansion of charter schools and school voucher programs, giving parents the ability to choose the best educational environment for their children. This competition can lead to improvements in traditional public schools as well.

   - **Support for Private School Scholarships**: Increase funding for scholarships that allow low-income families to access private education options, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to thrive.

 2. **Enhancing Accountability and Standards**

   - **Strengthening Academic Standards**: Ensure that Virginia maintains high academic standards and rigorous testing to hold schools accountable for student performance. Transparency in test scores will help parents make informed choices about their children’s education.

   - **Teacher Performance Evaluation**: Implement a fair and comprehensive teacher evaluation system that rewards effective educators and provides support for those who need improvement, ensuring that our children are taught by the best.

 3. **Targeted Support for Low-Income Students**

   - **Increase Funding for Title I Schools**: Advocate for increased funding specifically for Title I schools to ensure that low-income students receive the resources they need to succeed, including tutoring, after-school programs, and access to technology.

   - **Family Engagement Programs**: Develop programs that encourage parental involvement in education, providing resources and support for families to help their children succeed academically.

4. **Mental Health Resources in Schools**

   - **Expand Access to School Counselors**: Increase funding to hire more school counselors and mental health professionals to address the growing mental health needs of students, ensuring they have access to the support they need.

   - **Mental Health Education Programs**: Implement mental health education programs in schools to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and equip students with tools to manage stress and emotional challenges.

 5. **Investing in Teacher Development**

   - **Professional Development Opportunities**: Provide ongoing professional development and training for teachers to enhance their skills in classroom management, curriculum development, and mental health awareness.

   - **Competitive Salaries and Benefits**: Advocate for competitive salaries and benefits for teachers to attract and retain top talent in our schools.

 6. **Utilizing Technology in Education**

   - **Investment in Educational Technology**: Promote the integration of technology in the classroom to enhance learning experiences and prepare students for a competitive workforce.

   - **Online Learning Options**: Support the development of online learning platforms that provide flexibility and additional resources for students, particularly for those who may need alternative education solutions.

**Conclusion**

Education is the cornerstone of a successful future, and it is our duty to ensure that every child in Virginia has access to a high-quality education. By promoting school choice, enhancing accountability, supporting low-income students, expanding mental health resources, investing in teacher development, and utilizing technology, we can create an education system that meets the needs of all Virginians.

I am committed to working with parents, educators, and community leaders to implement these conservative policies that will improve education in Virginia. Together, we can build a brighter future for our children and our state.
