Position Report: Strengthening the Relationship Between the Virginia State Assembly and the Town of Herndon

I. Introduction

Max Fisher, a passionate candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, asserts the importance of intergovernmental cooperation and a strong, cohesive relationship between the State Assembly and the Town of Herndon. He emphasizes the necessity for open communication, mutual respect, and shared goals as critical to the success of local projects and initiatives.

II. The Loss of the Herndon Festival

The Herndon Festival, a cherished community event, was unfortunately canceled due to funding and security concerns. Fisher underscores this event as a case study in the potential negative outcomes that can arise when there is a lack of effective collaboration between the State Assembly and local governments. He maintains that with a more robust relationship, state funding could have been allocated to address the issues that led to the event's cancellation.

III. Necessity for a Collaborative Relationship

Fisher advocates for a collaborative relationship between the State Assembly and the Town of Herndon’s Mayor and Council. He believes that by fostering a relationship built on trust, respect, and shared goals, the community can avoid the loss of treasured traditions, like the Herndon Festival, in the future.

IV. Charter Amendments

Fisher understands the historical significance of Herndon’s unique charter, established in 1968 and most recently amended in 2017. He pledges to ensure that any future amendments are made in close consultation with the Town’s local leaders, respecting the history and integrity of Herndon’s unique setup.

V. Looking Ahead

Fisher encourages innovative thinking to support community projects and initiatives. He believes that, with a strengthened relationship, state resources can be more effectively utilized to address challenges and ensure the success of town events and initiatives.

VI. Conclusion

Max Fisher, as a candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, promises to work tirelessly to champion the needs and interests of the Herndon community. He sees the potential for a prosperous future for the Town of Herndon, achieved through a strong, respectful, and collaborative relationship between the State Assembly and the local government.
