POSITION STATEMENT
As Max Fisher, a candidate for the House of Delegates, I am committed to ensuring that voting rights are upheld and expanded for all Virginians.
Voting is a fundamental right in our democracy and I believe that it should be both accessible and secure. I am dedicated to finding ways to include all persons, regardless of their past, in our democratic process. I propose a policy that allows individuals with previous criminal convictions the opportunity to regain their voting rights after a period of time without crime. This will serve as a means of reintegration, allowing those who have paid their debt to society to reclaim their rights as American citizens.
However, while expanding voting rights, it is of paramount importance to maintain the purity of our elections. Therefore, I will ensure that only U.S citizens can vote in our elections, preserving the sanctity of each and every vote.
I recognize the importance of early voting, particularly for those who have work or family commitments that might prevent them from voting on Election Day. However, Virginia currently begins its early voting process earlier than any other state in the nation. I believe we need to strike a balance, reducing the timeline for early voting, while still ensuring its availability.
Voter ID laws are a common-sense approach to ensuring the integrity of our elections. Just as an ID is required for numerous daily activities, it should be required to cast a vote. I firmly believe that asking for an ID to vote is not discriminatory, but a necessary measure to prevent fraudulent voting.
In conclusion, I am committed to expanding voting rights, while also ensuring the security and integrity of our elections. I believe in a fair and inclusive democracy, and as your representative in the House of Delegates, I will strive to uphold these principles.
If elected, I pledge to take several legislative actions to uphold and expand voting rights:

If elected, I pledge to take several legislative actions to uphold and expand voting rights:
1. **Re-entry Legislation**: I will introduce a bill that would restore voting rights to individuals with past criminal convictions after a specified period of crime-free living. This legislation will provide a clear pathway for these individuals to fully reintegrate into society and exercise their democratic rights.
2. **Citizenship Verification Law**: I will propose legislation that requires proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote, ensuring that only U.S. citizens participate in our elections.
3. **Early Voting Reform**: I will advocate for a reduction in the early voting timeline in Virginia, while maintaining its broad availability. To achieve this, I will propose legislation that strikes a balance between convenience and security.
4. **Voter ID Law**: I will work towards revising our state’s Voter ID law with an emphasis on accessibility. This would include provisions for obtaining a free state-issued ID for voting purposes, ensuring that no citizen is disenfranchised due to financial constraints.
5. **Special Exemption Legislation**: I will propose a bill allowing for exceptions to the early voting timeline for specific cases such as military deployment, disability, and other extenuating circumstances, ensuring that all citizens have ample opportunity to cast their vote.
These legislative actions are aimed at achieving a more inclusive and secure democracy. I am committed to taking these steps and more to ensure that the voices of all Virginians are heard in our electoral process.
