Max Fisher Responds to Recent Incident in Herndon: Calls for Stronger Immigration Policies to Enhance Public Safety

**Herndon, VA** – In light of the recent assault on a woman walking on the W&OD trail in Herndon on November 19, 2025, Max Fisher, candidate for Virginia's 8th District House of Delegates, is calling for urgent action to address the pressing issues surrounding immigration policy and public safety in our communities. The 8th District covers most of the Town of Herndon and the western end of Fairfax County, making the safety of our residents a paramount concern.

The incident involved an alleged attacker who has since been identified as an undocumented individual with a history of legal troubles. Police Chief Maggie DeBoard confirmed during a press conference on November 20, 2025, that the suspect had no valid visa and was in the country illegally, raising serious concerns about the implications of current immigration policies and enforcement.

“This tragic event is a stark reminder of the real risks our communities face when we fail to enforce our immigration laws effectively,” said Fisher. “We must prioritize the safety of our residents and take a strong stance against undocumented immigration that endangers our families.”

Fisher emphasized that while immigration is primarily a federal issue, the consequences of failed policies trickle down to our state and local communities. He expressed deep concern over the lack of accountability and prosecution from local leaders, particularly Commonwealth Attorney Steve Decano, whose office has a history of failures to prosecute crimes by legal and undocumented individuals. “Our current leaders have been too silent on these critical issues, leaving our communities vulnerable,” he stated.

To address this concern, Fisher will be reaching out to Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares soon to bring awareness to this latest incident and the systemic issues surrounding undocumented immigration in our area.

“To ensure the safety of all Virginians, we must advocate for policies that hold individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their immigration status,” Fisher stated. “We cannot allow a lack of prosecution to create a culture of impunity that puts our residents at risk.”

In response to this incident and in the spirit of fostering a safer community, Fisher outlined several policy measures he would support as a member of the House of Delegates:

1. **Strengthening Collaboration with Law Enforcement**: Encouraging local police to work closely with federal immigration authorities while ensuring respect for individual rights.

2. **Supporting Victims of Crime**: Establishing resources to assist victims, ensuring they can report crimes without fear of deportation for themselves or their families.

3. **Promoting Public Safety Initiatives**: Increasing funding for community policing programs to build trust between law enforcement and residents.

4. **Advocating for Accountability in Prosecution**: Ensuring that all crimes are prosecuted to maintain public safety.

5. **Community Awareness Campaigns**: Launching initiatives to educate the public about the importance of legal immigration and the risks associated with undocumented immigration.

6. **Engaging with Community Organizations**: Collaborating with local organizations to support legal immigrants and provide pathways to citizenship.

Max Fisher believes that a comprehensive approach to immigration policy is essential to protect the safety and well-being of all Virginians. “Together, we can create a Virginia that celebrates legal immigration while taking necessary measures to address the challenges of undocumented immigration,” he concluded.
